Save money traveling by Air

Ultimately, the best way to save money when planning your trip is to resist mainstream travel patterns. If you can avoid traveling during peak seasons, days of the week and times of day you can find the tickets the airlines were forced to mark down to ensure a sold-out flight.Plane

Shopping for airline tickets has come a long way since the days of calling the airline companies directly to reserve your itinerary. The advent of the internet has given everyday consumers the ability to book airfares without the assistance of airline customer service representatives or travel agents. Here?s some information that will make you more knowledgeable about how to get the best deal when booking flights yourself online.

Have you ever seen the prices for a flight fluctuate drastically in the same day? This is because most airlines use robust, database driven software that factors historical purchase data along with current ticket supply and demand to determine ticket prices. For example, if a flight is selling out too fast compared with past flights for that same route, ticket prices will rise and vice versa. Prices are updated multiple times a day and even real-time in some systems.

Are you a business traveler? Airline companies are well aware that businesses are willing to pay more for airfares then the average consumer, so they commonly implement the ?Saturday Night Stay Over? requirement to capitalize on them. If you?re a non-business traveler try to incorporate a Saturday night stay over to avoid this fee. If you?re on business, show your employer how much they?ll save by letting you stay the weekend, if you so desire.

What are the most inexpensive days to fly? Tuesdays and Thursdays are historically the cheapest days to fly, with Wednesdays and Saturdays being a close second. Fridays and Sundays are the most expensive. This all goes back to the aforementioned ticket demand data that helps determine ticket prices. The same holds true for seasonal popularity and times of day. Flying red-eye during non-peak seasons is generally cheaper because those flights have less demand.

When is the best time to book my flight? Prices on last minute airfare can be highly volatile so try to book in advance. At the last minute, airlines know you?re desperate and are willing to pay more. However, occasionally the airlines are desperate to fill seats, so prices might decrease. For travel during popular holidays (i.e. Christmas, New Years, Thanksgiving) and internationally try book at least three months in advance. Most travel sites recommend booking 7, 14 or 21 days in advance, but in my experience the cheapest tickets usually get bought up long before then. So, even for domestic flights I start looking several months in advance.

Great Travel Experience

Dock1 My Parents recently traveled to Texas for business.  They were excited about booking their own travel with all the knowledge we have learned....They were ready to put it to the test!  They booked a suite for $110 a night.  When they arrived they informed the front desk that they are on line travel agents and asked if they provide upgrades.  They were upgraded to a beautiful 3 room suite....with a bathroom my mom said she could live in!!!!

The next morning Mom woke up hungry and decided to run to the snack machine.....when she opened the door to her suite she found a huge platter of breakfast food, coffee and orange juice had bent sent up....compliments of the hotel.  All in All they are ecstatic about the trip and Our Travel Co.  Passed The Test!

Travel..Travel...Travel

TahitiMy favorite thing to do since I was little was Travel.  I love to explore new places...cold, hot, climb mountains, snow board, swing through the trees on zip lines, bunji jump....you name it I have done it or have plans to do it.  When I was younger it was easy because my parents always took me on vacations and camps always offer wonderful contraptions to keep young Thrill Seekers entertained.  Yet I have found as I have gotten older and graduated college ( I am now 32 and proud to be everyday of it) that it is harder for me to get away.  I have learned in the past 10 years that if i don't get away on a trip or two...I am...lets just say..not a very nice person!  Stress can build up and going to the gym everyday can relieve about 3/4 of the stress but never completely release it all!!  I need the fresh salty sea air to help me completely breath in a breath of relaxation.  Or a good mountain bike trip up to the tip top of somewhere to wring all the stress away.

So after years of looking for away to Travel in a way I could afford, My Dad stumbled up on the great company called YTB.  It is actually a Travel company that sells you your on Travel web site, which is powered by Travelocity.  By having a travel web site you can be considered an on line travel agent, which allows you access to all the inside secret deals that only travel agents receive.  I was intrigued but not yet convinced.  So Dad and I took a trip to Orlando, where we received our travel certifications through YTB.  WE where there for two days and went to lectures held by Carnival, Apple Vacations, Fun Jet, Disney, etc...and we were taught how to travel for 70% less than before!  It was exciting to think that maybe I could begin my travels again!

They also explained that by using your site to book your own travel you get 60% of the commission that you would have paid a travel agent or other travel site.  Again I said great but ....well see.  So around this time I was planning my honeymoon.  Because the passport laws changed in Oct. and we got married in Oct. we go stuck without passports and birth certificates that we couldn't use...so we decided to head up to Gatlinburg.  So I logged on to my new site.. www.recessforyou.com to book a beautiful cabin in the mountains.  I checked around and the prices were competitive with all the other sites, and when I get the 60% commission back it would come out cheaper... so I booked it.

So off we go to Gatlinburg.  When we arrived I told the receptionist that I was a Travel Agent and gave her my credentials.  To my surprise she said that the cabin was not rented the night we where suppose to leave and wanted to know if we would like an additional night for free...because they extend that to Travel Agents. So my first experience with YTB was great...I received an additional night for free and came home to receive a check for $250 commission from booking on my website.

Just a good experience.  And I plan to blog a lot about all my Travels.  Find your passion and pursue it!! Have a great 08!
